The Missing Piece
The Missing Piece is a blog I started back in January of 2012. Originally I had started the blog for a course in English and Multimedia that I was taking at my university. After spending a semester developing The Missing Piece, I decided to keep it going.
The Missing Piece was designed to share my knowledge and experiences of special needs with those of the special needs community and those that just want to learn more about it. I discuss many different topics in my blog such as: working with special needs, family life, public interactions, volunteering, schooling, etc. My most popular entry to date is “Autism: How it Affects the Family”, where I discuss how the role of having a child with special needs can impact the parents and their marriage as well as what the siblings tend to struggle with as well. Being that I am a sibling to a brother with autism, this particular piece has a touch of my own life in it too. My brother, Daniel, is only a year and half younger than me so to say that my life was impacted by autism would be an understatement. Also, my blog has predominantly been viewed in the United States but is also widely read in the United Kingdom, Canada, and India in addition.
My goal for The Missing Piece is simple, I just want to give back to the community that I grew-up in and thrive in. The special needs community is so connected and strong, our bonds with one another are immediate and permanent. All I can hope for is that I have been able to help someone out there that has a question, or a problem, or doesn’t know how to feel about a situation having to do with special needs.
Cheers to strengthen our special needs community one piece at a time!!
