What Makes Everything Worth it

This job and life of being around individuals with disabilities can be…

Overwhelming!
Tiring
Stressful
Discouraging…
Frustrating
Tedious
Frightening
Dangerous!
Lonely
Hectic
Selfless
And Messy!

For myself, parents, siblings, care providers, teachers, and friends.

But there are moments, sometimes far and few between, but great and magnificent moments that make all the struggles and long nights worth it.

I’ve experienced so many proud moments over the course of my life. Whether its from my kiddo taking himself to the bathroom on his own (first time in 15 years). Or it’s one of my campers slowing down his speech (without prompting) so we can actually understand him. These moments make us…

Blessed
Grateful
Overjoyed
Compassionate
Joyous!
Dumbfounded
Excited
Smile 🙂
Enthusiastic
Impressed
And so so proud

To those not around special needs often, they may not see the significants. But for us who devote our lives and time to our kids and clients and friends, it’s truly a beautiful thing to be apart of our kids learning and succeeding.

It’s not about what someone can’t do. It’s about what they can do! Especially given the tools they’ve been given in life.

I was so impressed with my hemispherectamy campers. My two campers have only half a brain and they have just done so splendidly and marvelously, it’s incredible. As one of their dads said, “my kid makes me proud of him each and every day,” more importantly, “it’s incredible just how much he teaches us about life every single day.”
